5 Final Presentations

What happens today

Three things: a short quiz on the week’s reading, the close of the course, and your team’s presentation.

The quiz

We begin with twenty multiple-choice questions on the four required articles, five per article. Twenty minutes, on paper, closed book. It is 25% of your grade.

Your report is due at 13:10

Submit two files on Canvas:

  • the report, as a PDF
  • the file you made the figures in: your .qmd (R), .xlsx (Excel) or .twbx (Tableau)

The second file is not optional. It is how I see that the work is yours.

The presentation

Ten minutes per team, plus questions.

Structure it the way your report is structured:

  1. The question — one sentence. What did you want to know?
  2. The maps — show them. Say where the dark areas are and what that means.
  3. The graph — what relationship did you find?
  4. What you cannot say — the limitation that most threatens your conclusion.
  5. One thing that surprised you.

Show your figures and talk about them. Do not read from the slide, and do not put code or spreadsheets on screen.

The marks are split five ways — question 4, figures explained 7, what you cannot say 5, answering questions 7, time and teamwork 2. The breakdown is on the syllabus.

Questions you should expect

  • What is one row in your data?
  • Why did you choose that colour scale? What would a different one have shown?
  • Your two variables move together. Name something other than causation that would produce that pattern.
  • Which part of your figures did AI help with, and how did you check it?
